field trip

lucy's class took a field trip to the grocery store to buy the less fortunate food for thanksgiving.  with the $4 she was given she purchased spaghetti sauce, noodles, vienna sausages and lipton rice and vegetables.  what a great lesson and good feeling to be thankful for what we have and give to those who're in need.

it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

the snow fell for two-and-a-half days straight!  look how high it's piled up on the fence, i thought it was so beautiful, although, i feel like i need to string Christmas lights to go along with it.

after i shoveled the driveway off

we took the kids around the corner to a sled hill that was such a blast.  the only pictures i have are just getting out of the car, because it was still snowing hard and i didn't want my camera subjected to that or a sled ride, but it was super fun.  edy went down twice and wasn't real keen on the idea, but we had to drag lucy off the hill because she didn't want to leave.  what a fun winter we're going to have!

and then we came home to attempt our first snow man.  we've got some improvements to make, but i think he turned out kinda cute :-)

let it snow!

our backyard
by the time i realized i didn't have my other camera lens on i was already covered in snow so i could only get close ups.  it started snowing about 8 o'clock last night and still hasn't stopped yet!  the weather man called for 8-14"!  so this is what we woke up to...

pumpkin carvin'

we're having a pumpkin carving party this week, so we thought we would have a test run to see how it would go.  the girls were all excited about the idea so we took all the tools out, got everything set up and as soon as i cut the lid off the top and they saw the guts inside, they wanted nothing to do with it.  so i think for the party we'll be painting instead!  so here's my first carved pumpkin!

i blew my socks off!

i registered for the shake, rattle and run 5k hoping and praying that i could beat my best timing of 32:34 and score somewhere around 31 minutes.    i just wasn't feeling it when i got there, it was cold, i didn't know where to go, i had no friends with me, no family, just me and my ipod to cheer me on.  so on your mark, get set, go!   my first mile was awful, i was freezing, i started cramping, my shoe lace with my time chip on it came untied (which i never stopped to tie because i thought it would add at least  twenty seconds to my time) i felt like i was dragging and then i started questioning why i decided to do this in the first place.  i figured it out around the second mile when around the corner i came overlooking the beautiful mountain range and third day happened upon my shuffle list.  my body warmed up and i picked up my step a little and i just kept thinking, if nothing else, it's a beautiful morning for a jog :-)  because at this point, i was running just for the exercise because i thought no way on earth would i make it in 31 minutes, no way.  people with strollers were starting to pass me.  just as i was coming up the hill thinking i was going to die if i don't stop  i saw the big blue tents and the finish line.  i can't stop now, but i can't move any faster.  the closer and closer i got the score clock was coming into focus.  WHAT?!  there were only 29 minutes on the clock and i was in disbelief!  i couldn't believe it!  i bolted it as fast as i possibly could and crossed the finish line at 29:40!!!!!!!!  i immediately started crying and couldn't catch my breath until i realized if i didn't get it together people were going to think i was injured or something.  anyway, i'm so proud of myself.  the results aren't on the website yet and i didn't have time to see how i placed in my age group, but even if i didn't 29:40 is enough for me!
